The bench storage under this breakfast nook provides a large space to store all kinds of bulky items: large pots, serving trays, kids' toys, etc. Since there are three small children in the house, we used slow-closing friction hinges and cut out small scallops under the seats. We also created access panels and removable grilles for the toe kick heaters beneath the breakfast nook. To match the preexisting kitchen cabinets, we used a pigmented conversion varnish finish with a glaze.
